PASOPORT PROGRAM

The PasoPort Program is a scholarship assistance program for academically gifted students who lack the financial resources to travel to their respective college for four years. The program has been a tremendous success with 30 graduates and 37 current students representing an outlay of over $200,000 throughout the life of the program.

1. Brief Description
The Pasoport Program is a project of the Sunturians, a group of 100 young business leaders in El Paso, to provide assistance to selected students in the El Paso, Socorro and Ysleta Independent School Districts who have received scholarships to institutions of higher education outside of the Paso del Norte Region. The program is targeted to scholarship recipients from their respective university with the most acute financial need. Attached is a copy of a newspaper article, which further discusses the Pasoport Program.

2. Major Objectives
a. Help Scholarship recipients to maintain strong ties with their families and with the Paso Del Norte Region.
b. To assist in limiting the flight of talented young minds from the Paso Del Norte Region.
c. Create an incentive for scholarship recipients to maintain their scholarships and complete their higher education.
d. In subsequent years, provide the financial incentive for students who are contemplating acceptance of scholarships to universities outside of the Paso del Norte Region.

3. Services, Funding and Other Assistance to be provided by Sunturians to selected scholarship recipients.
a. Full scholarship recipients will receive Minimum of two (2) round trip airline tickets per year for four  (4) academic years.
b. Partial scholarship recipients will receive a one  (1)-time lump sum cash scholarship of between $250.00 and $1,000.00.

4. Criteria
The Pasoport Program is designed for students on scholarship with strong academic backgrounds that are in strong economic need.  Family income and economic needs are strongly reviewed
